 The Confession of our Christian Faith

 
I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, Our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost born of The Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into Hell, the third day He arose from the dead and ascended into Heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. 
I believe in the Holy Ghost, The Holy Universal Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.  Amen.
 
 
Statement of Faith

 

 

A.     The Holy Scriptures

 

We believe that all scripture (including both the Old and New Testament) is God’s revelation to man, written by men directed by the Holy Spirit. Scripture, Inerrant and infallible in the original and final authority in faith and life, is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness. (Gen.1:1; Deut. 6:4; Isa. 57:15; Mat. 28:19; Jn. 4:24; ll Cor. 13:14; Col. 1:16,17; Heb.1:3).

 

B.     The Doctrine of God

 

We believe that God is spirit, eternally existing in three persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit – and these three are of one essence and equal in power and glory, possessing the same attributes and perfections. God is above and separate from His creation, yet active in it as Preserver. (Gen. 1:1;Deut. 6:4; Isa. 57:15; Mat. 28:19; Jn. 4:24; ll Cor. 13:14; Col.1:16,17; Heb. 1:3).

 

The Father

 

We believe that God the Father is the author of one eternal plan that includes all things and He is directing this plan to glorify Himself. He is the creator of the universe and the human race, but the spiritual Father only of those who receive Jesus Christ by faith. (Jn. 1:12; Rom. 8:28-30; l Cor. 3:6; 15:24-28; Eph. 1:3-12).

 

The Son: Jesus Christ

 

We believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is eternal, and became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, sinless in nature and action. He voluntarily gave His life in substitutionary death on the cross for our sins, thereby satisfying God’s righteous judgments against sin. In the same body He was raised from the dead substantiating the accomplishment of redemption. He appeared in His glorified body, then ascended to the right hand of God the Father as our Mediator to continue forever as true God and true man. He will come again, first to receive from earth His own and then to establish His righteous kingdom, sit upon the throne of His father David and reign for a thousand years. ( Zech. 14:4; Mat. 28:6; Lk. 1:32,34,35; Jn. 1:1,2,14,18; 14:3; Acts 15:14-16; Rom.3:24-26; 8:34; llThes.4:15-17; Heb. 2:14; 4:15; I Pet. 2:24; Rev. 20:4,6).

 

The Holy Spirit

 

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the divine, third Person of the trinity who convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment; that He alone brings new life to those who are spiritually dead; that He baptizes all believers into the Body of Christ; that He indwells them permanently, seals them until the day of redemption, and bestows spiritual gifts upon them according to His own will; and fills (controls) those who are yielded to Him and subjects to His will. ( Gen. 1:2; l Sam. 16:13; Jn. 3:3-8; 15:26; 16:7-11; Acts 5:3,4; Rom. 8:9; l Cor. 6:19; 12:11,13; 14:16,17; Eph. 1:13; 3:16; 4:30; 5:18; Titus 3:5).

 

C.     The Condition of Man

We believe that man is the direct creation of God, made in the image and likeness of God, in innocence, without sin and in perfect fellowship with God. He was tempted b Satan and sinned by disobeying God’s revealed will. In Adam’s sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became spiritually dad and alienated from God. All members of the human race are born in sin, are sinners by nature and practice, and are incapable of remedying their lost and depraved condition. ( Gen. 1:26; 3:1-24; Psa. 51:5; Rom. 3:9-18,23; 5:12; Eph. 2:1-3).

 

D.     Salvation

 

We believe that salvation is the free gift of God’s grace, offered to us on the basis of Christ’s substitutionary death on the cross. It cannot be obtained or increased by human effort, but is freely bestowed upon all who put their faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ at Calvary. This salvation contains within itself deliverance from the guilt and penalty of sin, a perfect righteous standing before God, the provision for victory over the power of sin, and the promise of future glorification in God’s presence. (Jn. 3:14-28; Acts 20:21; Rom. 8:23; Eph. 2:8,9; Titus 2:11-14).

 

E.      The Church

We believe that the true Church is composed of all those who by faith have been united to the risen and ascended Son of God. The Church began at Pentecost an will be completed at the coming of Christ for His own at the rapture. All believers in this age are baptized by the Holy Spirit into Christ at conversion and so to assemble in local churches for worship, instruction in the Word, fellowship, Prayer, and observance of the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The commission of Christ to His Church is to communicate the Gospel to both Jew and Gentile. (Mat. 16:18; 28:18-20; Acts 2:42-47; 13:1,2; l Cor. 11:23-26; 12:13; Eph. 1:21-23; 4:3-10; Heb. 10:25).

 

F.      Security and Responsibility

We believe that all the saved – those in who God has accomplished His transforming work of grace – are kept by His power and thus are eternally secure in Christ. This assurance of salvation is not the occasion for sin, for God in His holiness cannot tolerate persistent sin Lordship of Christ; studies the Word of God to show himself approved unto God; and walks (lives) worthy of the position into which he is called through the power of the Holy Spirit. (Mat. 7:20; Jn. 10:27-29; Rom. 8:29-39; 13:1-7; l Cor. 6:19,20; Eph. 4:1; Phil. 2:5-11; Titus 2:11-14; Heb. 12:6; James 2:20; l Jn. 5:13).
